As a renowned Greek conductor and composer, George Chlitsios has left an indelible mark on the world of classical music. With a career spanning over three decades, he has cemented his position as one of the most respected and sought-after conductors of his generation.
Born on March 25, 1969, in Volos, Greece, Chlitsios' musical journey began at a young age. He studied music at the Epirotic Conservatory of Ioannina, where he honed his skills in piano and composition under the guidance of Aspasia Zerva, and viola with Sophocles Politis and Nikos Kardaris.
With the support of the Tsakalof Institute, Chlitsios pursued his undergraduate studies in orchestral conducting at Rotterdam Conservatorium and the Royal Academy in Hague. He further augmented his knowledge with postgraduate and doctoral studies at London College of Music, Thames Valley University, and the University of Surrey in England. Chlitsios also attended master classes at Manhattan School of Music in New York.
Since 1993, Chlitsios has held the position of permanent conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Tsakalof. Under his baton, he has led the orchestra in numerous concerts and world premieres across major Greek cities, including Ioannina, Athens, Kifisia, and Larisa, as well as in European cities such as Spain, France, Germany, and England.
In addition to his work with the Symphony Orchestra Tsakalof, Chlitsios has been the principal conductor of the Epirotiki Opera Tsakalof since 1996. As a guest conductor, he has led esteemed ensembles, including the Pro Arte Orchestra Vienna, Rotterdams Conservatorium Symphonie Orkest Netherlands, LCM Symphony Orchestra London, and the Athens State Philharmonic Orchestra Athens, among others.
Chlitsios has had the privilege of working with renowned soloists, including pianists Maria Cherogeorge-Sigara, Jenny Zaharieva, Aspasia Zerva, and Charalambos Aggelopoulos, as well as violinists Simos Papanas and Evangjel Papadhimitri. These collaborations have resulted in unforgettable performances that have left audiences in awe.
