German Moreno, fondly known as "Kuya Germs," was a Filipino television host, presenter, actor, comedian, talent manager, producer, writer, and director who captivated audiences with his charisma and versatility. German Molina Moreno was born on October 4, 1933, to Jose Moreno y Calvo, a Spanish Filipino mestizo, and Aurora Molina, a Filipina. His early life was marked by hardship, with his father passing away after an incident involving an American soldier. Moreno worked various jobs to support his family, including as a jeepney barker and selling bibingka, peanuts, and cigarettes.
In 1963, Moreno took his comedy act to Sampaguita Pictures, where he worked with some of the biggest stars of the time, including Dolphy, Panchito, Gloria Romero, and Susan Roces. His breakthrough came when he hosted a premiere night at the Life Theater and refused payment, instead asking for movie roles. This led to roles in films such as "Dance-O-Rama," "Mga Batang Iskwater," "Class Reunion," and "Mga Batang Bakasyunista."
Moreno's radio career began as Eddie Ilarde's sidekick in the program "Ngayon Naman" on CBN. He later transferred to DZTR, where he hosted his own shows, including "Bisita Artista," "Music Factory," and "Guy and Pip Song Festival." In 1969, he moved to DZBB, where he hosted his own noontime show, which later became "GMA Supershow" on television.
German Moreno received numerous awards for his contributions to Filipino entertainment, including the Best Male Television Host award at the 1994 PMPC Star Awards for Television. He was also inducted into the Eastwood City Walk of Fame in 2011.
