Greg Plitt was a renowned American fitness model, actor, and television personality, best known for his starring role in the Bravo television series Work Out. With his chiseled physique and charismatic on-screen presence, Plitt inspired millions to embark on their fitness journeys, making him a household name in the health and wellness industry.
Born on November 3, 1977, in Lutherville, Maryland, Plitt was raised by his parents, an interior designer mother and a real estate agent father. He had an older sister who attended the United States Naval Academy, and it was her transformation after her first year that inspired Plitt to take an interest in fitness. Plitt attended Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was an accomplished athlete, participating in football, wrestling, and golf teams. He graduated in 1996 and went on to attend the United States Military Academy, graduating in 2000. During his time at the Academy, Plitt was both Airborne and Ranger qualified, serving in the US Army as a Ranger for five years.
After his military service, Plitt pursued a career in fitness, becoming a certified personal trainer in Los Angeles. He was a member of the official METRx athlete team and was awarded the METRx Athlete of the Year award for 2012. Plitt was also the author of the workout program MFT28, featured by Bodybuilding.com. Plitt's approach to fitness was unique and inspiring. He believed that fitness was not just about physical transformation but also about building mental toughness and discipline. As he often said, "That transformation that you see when someone becomes a soldier... they start changing their ways and they become the men they always wanted to be. Then other soldiers start looking up to them as role models. Then they're proud and they hold their heads high. That's more gratifying than anything I've done. That's what's so cool about it – to be able to train somebody and transform them."
Greg Plitt's untimely death on January 17, 2015, at the age of 37, was a shock to his fans and the fitness community. However, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he inspired and the impact he had on the fitness industry.
