Ike Moriz grew up in Wentorf, near Hamburg, Germany, and attended the local primary school from 1978 to 1982. He then attended the Wentorf grammar school, where he became head boy from 1988 to 1989. During this period, he developed his passion for music and acting, working with his piano teacher, Hans Bittner, who also directed him in several theater plays.
After completing his compulsory one-year military service, Moriz traveled to South Africa to work on his uncle's citrus farm in Clanwilliam, Western Cape, from 1992 to 1993. Upon his return to Hamburg, he studied economics at the University of Hamburg from 1993 to 1995, while performing in rock bands and acting in English-language theater plays.
Moriz further honed his musical skills by studying jazz, rock, and pop music at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden from 1995 to 1999, under the guidance of Professor Hanns-Herbert Schulz. As part of his course, he participated in a 12-month student exchange program at the South African College of Music in Cape Town and the Conservatory of Music in Rotterdam (Erasmus Programme) from 1997 to 1998. He graduated with two degrees: Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education.
Ike Moriz moved to London in 1999, where he began performing as a street musician and eventually became the lead vocalist and keyboard player of the indie rock band Stunt Double. He also appeared in several musical theater productions, including the lead role in the American musical Saving Anne at the Greenwich Theatre in 2002.
