American actress known for her roles in films like "Transformers: The Last Knight" and "Dora and the Lost City of Gold", bringing beloved characters to life on the big screen.
Known for her captivating performances in films like Transformers: The Last Knight, Instant Family, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Isabela Merced has quickly become a household name in the entertainment industry. With her versatility and range, she has successfully transitioned from television to film, proving herself to be a talented and dedicated actress.
Born Isabela Yolanda Moner on July 10, 2001, in Cleveland, Ohio, she is the daughter of Katherine, a Peruvian native, and Patrick Moner, a Louisiana-born father. Growing up in a multicultural household, Merced learned to speak Spanish as her first language and only began to learn English when she started attending grade school. This early exposure to different cultures would later influence her acting career and provide her with a unique perspective.
Merced's journey into the world of acting began at the tender age of six, when she started performing in local community theater productions. Tragedy struck when her family's Cleveland home was destroyed by a fire, but it was this same event that led her parents to encourage her to audition for a local production of The Wizard of Oz. She was cast as a Munchkin, and soon, her talent was recognized by a local theater director, who urged her family to relocate to New York City to pursue a career on Broadway.
At just ten years old, Merced made her Broadway debut in a production of Evita, where she sang in Spanish alongside Ricky Martin. This early experience laid the foundation for her future success in the entertainment industry.
In 2014, Merced landed her first starring role as CJ Martin in the Nickelodeon television series 100 Things to Do Before High School, a show that ran for two seasons. During this time, she also began providing the voice of Kate, one of the main characters in the animated television series Dora and Friends: In the City.
Merced's big break came in 2017 when she appeared in Transformers: The Last Knight, a blockbuster film that catapulted her into the spotlight. She went on to star in Instant Family alongside Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, opposite Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin.
In 2019, Merced took on the titular role in the adventure film Dora and the Lost City of Gold, a live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series. Her performance earned her widespread critical acclaim and solidified her position as a leading lady in Hollywood.
Merced's talents have been recognized by the industry, earning her a string of award nominations, including an Imagen Award for Best Young Actress and a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favorite TV Actress.
Merced is an advocate for embracing one's cultural heritage and has spoken publicly about the importance of diversity and representation in the entertainment industry. She is also an animal lover and has been involved in various charity work, including supporting organizations that promote animal welfare.
In her free time, Merced enjoys listening to music, playing the guitar, and spending time with her family. She is proud of her Peruvian heritage and has stated that she considers herself more Peruvian than American.
With a slew of upcoming projects in the pipeline, including the romantic drama Turtles All the Way Down, Merced is poised to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. Her dedication to her craft, her passion for her heritage, and her commitment to using her platform for good have earned her a legion of fans around the world.
