Jacques Rougeau is a Canadian former professional wrestler best known for his appearances in the 1980s and 1990s with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as WWE. He is recognized for his distinctive characters, including the Mountie and one half of the tag team The Fabulous Rougeaus with his brother Raymond Rougeau.
Jacques Rougeau was born on June 13, 1960, in Saint-Sulpice, Quebec, Canada. He comes from a wrestling family, with his father Jacques Sr., older brother Raymond, and uncle Jean Johnny Rougeau all involved in professional wrestling. His sister Johanne also promoted wrestling matches in Montreal, and brother Armand wrestled for smaller federations.
Rougeau began his career in 1977, working in Stu Hart's Calgary, Alberta-based Stampede Wrestling promotion. In the 1980s, he began wrestling in the United States, achieving success in Alabama and Tennessee. In 1985, he and his brother Raymond were signed by the World Wrestling Federation.
In 1986, Jacques and Raymond debuted in the WWF as the Fabulous Rougeaus, a tag team that claimed victories against notable teams such as The Hart Foundation, The Moondogs, and The Dream Team. Although they lost their match at WrestleMania III in 1987 to The Hart Foundation, they remained a dominant force in the WWF tag team division.
In 1991, Jacques began a singles career as the Mountie, a character inspired by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He won the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship once during this period, solidifying his status as a top wrestler.
In 1993, Jacques formed a new tag team, The Quebecers, with Pierre Ouellet. They went on to win the WWF Tag Team Championship three times, further cementing Jacques' legacy in the world of professional wrestling.
