during World War II, Casey served in the Royal Armoured Corps from 1941 and later as an officer in the Durham Light Infantry from 1944. He was part of the 9th Battalion DLI, which landed on the Normandy beaches on D-Day in 1944. Casey's wartime experiences were later documented by the Imperial War Museum as part of their Durham Light Infantry oral history project.
After the war, Casey began working at the BBC, where he would spend the next three decades. He started as a scriptwriter for various radio shows, eventually becoming a senior producer for BBC Radio Light Entertainment.
