A professional ice hockey defenseman playing in the NHL, known for his physical presence and defensive skills on the ice.
Jamie Oleksiak, affectionately known as the Big Rig, is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). With his impressive skills on the ice, Oleksiak has quickly become a fan favorite, known for his towering height and dominating presence on the rink.
Born on December 21, 1992, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Oleksiak's passion for hockey started at a young age. He attended Northeastern University for one year, where he played for the Northeastern Huskies and registered 13 points in his freshman season, consisting of 4 goals and 9 assists, along with a team-best +13 plus-minus.
The Dallas Stars selected Oleksiak 14th overall in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, making him the highest draft choice in Northeastern University's history. After his freshman season, Oleksiak decided to return to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) for further development. On July 25, 2011, the Saginaw Spirit announced that they had signed Oleksiak to an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) contract. On October 6, 2011, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars.
FOLLOWING HIS JUNIOR CAREER, Oleksiak turned professional and was assigned to the Texas Stars, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Dallas Stars, to begin the 2012-13 season. He tallied his first professional point on October 14, 2012, in a win over the Charlotte Checkers. On October 24, 2012, he scored his first professional goal, the game-winner. Through the first 13 games of the 2012-13 season, Oleksiak tied for the team lead in scoring among defensemen, with one goal and four assists.
On January 15, 2013, Oleksiak earned his first NHL call-up, but it was short-lived as he was reassigned to the AHL shortly thereafter. Upon returning to the AHL, Oleksiak continued to impress, accumulating two goals and 10 assists through the next 25 games. His outstanding play earned him a permanent spot on the Dallas Stars' roster, where he played until 2021. On July 21, 2021, Oleksiak was traded to the Seattle Kraken, where he currently plays.
When not dominating on the ice, Oleksiak is an avid supporter of charitable initiatives. He has been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including supporting children's charities and participating in NHL-sponsored community events.
Jamie Oleksiak's impressive career has left a lasting impact on the hockey world. His dedication to his craft, combined with his charitable endeavors, has made him a beloved figure in the NHL.
