Jay DeMarcus, born Stanley Wayne DeMarcus Jr. on April 26, 1971, is an American guitarist, vocalist, record producer, and songwriter. Best known as a member of the country music band Rascal Flatts from 1999 to 2021, DeMarcus has made an indelible mark on the music industry.
DeMarcus was born in Columbus, Ohio, and grew up with his mother and sister. He attended Tree of Life Christian Schools and Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus, and later moved to Cleveland, Tennessee, where he attended Lee College from 1990 to 1992. During his college years, he traveled and performed as a keyboard player in the Christian music group New Harvest, led by Danny Murray.
In 1993, DeMarcus co-founded the contemporary Christian music group East to West, which eventually led him to Nashville, Tennessee. After East to West disbanded, he called his second cousin, Gary LeVox, and convinced him to join him in Nashville. The two worked together on Michael English's album Gospel, which earned a Dove Award nomination for Inspirational Song of the Year. This collaboration marked the beginning of DeMarcus's successful music career.
In addition to his work with East to West and Rascal Flatts, DeMarcus has produced albums for several notable artists, including James Otto, Jo Dee Messina, Austins Bridge, and Chicago. His production credits also include working with Michael English on his album Gospel, which received critical acclaim.
DeMarcus has explored his acting career, appearing in several television shows and films. He made a memorable guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2010, playing himself in an episode titled "Unshockable." He has also appeared in the film A Country Christmas, as well as episodes of Nashville and Drop Dead Diva.
In October 2018, DeMarcus founded Red Street Records, an independent Christian music label. This venture marks a new chapter in his career, allowing him to nurture and promote emerging talent in the Christian music scene.
