Tevaga was born on 4 September 1995 in Christchurch, New Zealand, to a family of Samoan, Maori, and European descent. He began playing junior football for the Burnham Chevaliers in Christchurch and later joined the Papakura Sea Eagles in Auckland. During his time at Papakura High School, he played in the 2013 National Secondary School championship and was selected for the tournament team.
Tevaga made his NRL debut for the New Zealand Warriors in Round 3 of the 2016 NRL season, replacing injured Issac Luke in the Warriors' 21-14 loss to the Melbourne Storm. He went on to represent Samoa in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, playing all four games as the starting hooker and scoring a try in their loss to Tonga.
In 2018, Tevaga cemented his position as a bench hooker for the Warriors, filling in for the starting hooker Issac Luke. He appeared in 20 games, 19 of which were from the bench, solidifying his place in the team.
