Tigana's big break came in 1980 when he joined Bordeaux in a 4 million transfer. Over the next eight years, he formed a formidable midfield partnership, helping the club win three league titles and three French cups. Bordeaux also came close to European glory, losing in the semifinals of the European Cup and Cup Winners' Cup in 1985 and 1987, respectively.
