Allam's passion for racing began at a young age, starting with kart racing before progressing to saloon car racing. He quickly made a name for himself, winning regularly in Vauxhalls and eventually entering the British Saloon Car Championship in 1978.
In his debut year, Allam finished 2nd in class, driving a Ford Capri 3.0. He repeated this feat in 1979, proving his consistency and skill behind the wheel. In 1981, he drove a TWR Rover Vitesse, taking Rovers first overall win in the championship.
The following year, Allam partnered with Frank Sytner, but Sytner left the team partway through the year. Undeterred, Allam continued to drive for TWR Rover, winning the class title in 1982. He was paired with Steve Soper and Pete Lovett in the Rover team in 1983, and the three drivers dominated the year, easily winning the manufacturers championship.
Allam's success extended beyond British shores. In 1984, he won the new Group A class at the Bathurst 1000 in Australia, driving a TWR Rover partnered by regular ETCC codriver Armin Hahne from Germany. Two years later, he won the prestigious ETCC Tourist Trophy at Silverstone in a TWR prepared Rover, alongside codriver and former Formula One World Champion Denny Hulme.
In 1989, Allam was crowned champion in the TVR Tuscan Challenge, a testament to his adaptability and skill behind the wheel of different cars.
After retiring from professional racing, Allam went on to work as the Head of Business for Allam Motor Services in Epsom, a Skoda sales and service and Vauxhall servicing dealership.
