Lead guitarist of the glam metal band Cinderella, known for his iconic riffs and solos on hits like "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)" and "Nobody's Fool".
Jeff LaBar, the American guitarist, is best known for his work with the iconic glam metal band Cinderella, replacing original guitarist Michael Schermick and leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. With his unique style and riffs, he helped shape the sound of Cinderella, making them a staple of the 80s hair metal scene.
Born on March 18, 1963, in Darby, Pennsylvania, Jeff grew up in Upper Darby Township, just outside Philadelphia. His part-Japanese ancestry, courtesy of his mother June, added a unique flavor to his upbringing. It was his brother Jack LaBar who inspired him to pick up the guitar, sparking a passion that would drive his career.
In 1985, Jeff joined Cinderella, which was on the brink of stardom. With his arrival, the band's sound evolved, and they released their debut album Night Songs in 1986. The album's success propelled Cinderella into the spotlight, and they went on to release three more albums: Long Cold Winter (1988), Heartbreak Station (1990), and Still Climbing (1994).
In addition to his work with Cinderella, Jeff was part of the side band Naked Beggars with bandmate Eric Brittingham. They released two albums, Naked Beggars (2003) and Spit It Out (2005). He also recorded with Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot) and Tony Franklin (The Firm) on the album Freakshow (2009).
Jeff was married to Debinique Salazar, and they hosted an internet radio show, "Late Night with the LaBars," on Realityradio.biz. He had a son, Sebastian, from a previous marriage, who is now the lead guitarist in two bands, Mach22 and Tantric. During Cinderella's temporary breakup in the mid-1990s, Jeff supported himself by running a pizza shop with his brother and doing construction jobs.
Throughout his career, Jeff LaBar's contributions to glam metal have been recognized and celebrated. With Cinderella, he was part of the 30th-anniversary tour in 2012, alongside fellow rock veterans Poison. His solo album One for the Road was released in 2014.
Jeff LaBar passed away on July 14, 2021, at the age of 58, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence generations of musicians. His guitar work and signature style will forever be etched in the annals of rock history.
