Following Wood's departure from the band in 1972, Lynne assumed sole leadership of ELO, writing, arranging, and producing virtually all of the band's subsequent records.
ELO's most commercially successful album, Out of the Blue, was released in 1977 and featured some of the band's most beloved hits. The album's success was followed by Discovery in 1979 and Time in 1981, both of which topped the British charts. Lynne produced all 15 of ELO's Top 10 singles in the UK, including "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Hold On Tight."
In 1986, Lynne disbanded ELO, citing a loss of interest in the project. He went on to release two solo albums, Armchair Theatre in 1990 and Long Wave in 2012. Lynne has also collaborated with other artists, including George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Tom Petty, as a member of the supergroup Traveling Wilburys.
Lynne has been awarded numerous accolades for his contribution to music, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has also received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
