Born on November 24, 1998, in Anchorage, Alaska, Swayman was destined for greatness. He was introduced to ice hockey at a young age, attending Alaska Anchorage Seawolves men's ice hockey games with his father as an infant. In 2017, Swayman's hard work paid off when he was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round, 111th overall, of the NHL Entry Draft.
Swayman's collegiate career with the Maine Black Bears was nothing short of remarkable. During the 2019-2020 season, he boasted an impressive .939 save percentage and 2.07 goals against average, earning him both the Hockey East Player of the Year award and the Mike Richter Award for the top collegiate goaltender.
After three successful years with the Maine Black Bears, Swayman left college to join the Bruins. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his professional hockey career didn't begin until the 2020-2021 season.
Swayman spent the early part of the 2020-2021 season with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) before being promoted to the NHL in April. His outstanding performance led Bruins' coach Bruce Cassidy to name Swayman as Tuukka Rask's backup goaltender in the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Although Swayman only appeared in one postseason game, his talent was undeniable. After Rask and Jaroslav Halak left the Bruins, Swayman formed a goaltending platoon with veteran Linus Ullmark, with whom he won the William M. Jennings Trophy for allowing the fewest goals in the 2022-2023 season.
