Australian actress and singer known for her roles in TV series and musical theatre, particularly in the Australian production of "Hairspray".
Jessica Jacobs was an Australian actress and singer, best known for her role as Melanie Atwood in the second series of the popular television show, The Saddle Club. At just 17 years old, Jacobs had already made a mark in the entertainment industry, showcasing her versatility and talent in various roles and projects.
Born on November 14, 1990, in Canberra, Australia, Jacobs was the middle child of Joanna and Brendan Jacobs, and had two older brothers, Adam and Seth, and a younger brother, Charlie. She began acting at the tender age of nine and went on to appear in several television shows and stage productions.
One of her notable roles was as Marta von Trapp in the Melbourne production of The Sound of Music, where she took over from Rachel Marley who had played the role in the opening Sydney production. Jacobs' other television credits include Fergus McPhail, Worst Best Friends, and Holly's Heroes.
Aside from acting, Jacobs was a talented musician who studied ballet and classical violin from the age of six. She eventually learned to play the bass guitar and was a member of the band, The Volten Sins. In 2003, she released a CD single, Trouble, with Janelle Corlass-Brown.
Jacobs was a Christian and attended the Anglican Church of Australia. In the months leading up to her death, she had taken a break from acting to focus on her music and education.
On May 10, 2008, Jacobs' life was tragically cut short when she was fatally hit by a train at Cheltenham railway station in Melbourne. She was just 17 years old and six months away from completing her Victorian Certificate of Education.
A year after Jacobs' passing, her mother, Joanna Jacobs, founded the Jessica Jacobs School of Drama in her memory. This tribute to her daughter's passion and talent has continued to inspire and nurture young actors and musicians.
Jessica Jacobs may have left us too soon, but her legacy lives on through her body of work and the impact she had on those around her. Her story is a reminder of the importance of pursuing one's passions and making the most of the time we have.
