Joey Cape is a name synonymous with punk rock, best known as the frontman of the California-based band Lagwagon. Since the late 1980s, Cape has been instrumental in shaping the punk rock scene, both with Lagwagon and his various side projects.

In 2008, Cape released his first solo album, Bridge, showcasing his ability to venture beyond Lagwagon's punk rock sound. He followed this up with Doesn't Play Well with Others in 2011, a self-released album that featured a unique approach, with each song released monthly throughout 2010.

In the late 1990s, Cape founded his own record label, My Records, which released its debut album, Nerf Herder's self-titled album. Although the label is no longer in operation, it served as a platform for Cape to support emerging bands.
Lagwagon's hiatus in the late 1990s and early 2000s allowed Cape to focus on side projects, including Bad Astronaut and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. During this time, he worked on multiple projects, some of which would later influence Lagwagon's sound.
With Lagwagon, Cape released Blaze in 2003 and Resolve in 2005, the latter being a tribute to Lagwagon's drummer, Derrick Plourde, who had passed away in 2005. They released an EP, I Think My Older Brother Used to Listen to Lagwagon, in 2008, and later, the full-length album Hang in 2014.
