It was during this time that he met Ana Torroja, the lead singer of Mecano, and together they formed the band in 1981. Their debut album, Mecano, was a huge success, thanks in part to Cano's composition skills, and included the hit single "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar."

Four years later, he composed an "Our Father" that was sung by Montserrat Caball during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Valencia.
In 2012, Cano conducted the orchestra at Caball's last concert in Madrid, a testament to his enduring legacy in the music industry.
