Lead vocalist and founder of the British band All About Eve, known for her poetic lyrics and soaring vocals in the gothic rock and dream pop genres.
Julianne Regan, a talented English-Irish singer, songwriter, and musician, achieved unparalleled success in the late 1980s and early 1990s as the lead singer and songwriter of the band All About Eve. With her captivating voice and songwriting skills, she left an indelible mark on the British goth rock scene, earning her the title of "one of the more talented singers" of the era.
Regan's musical journey began at the tender age of 15, when she received a Woolworths electric guitar from a cousin and taught herself to play. This early start laid the foundation for her future success.
After moving to London at 19, Regan worked as a journalist for music magazine ZigZag, while studying at the London College of Fashion. During this time, she interviewed Gene Loves Jezebel and subsequently joined the band on bass guitar. However, she soon left due to creative differences and teamed up with friend and former Xmal Deutschland drummer Manuela Zwingmann to form a new band, initially called The Swarm, later renamed All About Eve.
The original lineup, consisting of Regan, Zwingmann, Tim Bricheno, and James Richard Jackson, recorded their first single "D For Desire" in 1985. Following disagreements over artistic direction, Zwingmann left the band, and Andy Cousin replaced Jackson on bass, forming the iconic lineup of Bricheno, Cousin, and Regan, accompanied by a drum machine.
Regan's lyrics often explored themes of love, nature, and the human condition, showcasing her poetic and introspective side. Her music served as a reflection of her inner world, revealing a deep connection to the natural world and a fascination with the mysteries of life.
Regan's contribution to the goth rock genre has inspired a generation of musicians and fans, cementing her place as a pioneering figure in the industry.
