Justin Whalin, an American actor born on September 6, 1974, is best known for his iconic roles as the teenage Andy Barclay in the horror film Child's Play 3, Ridley Freeborn in the fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons, and Jimmy Olsen in the popular television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Whalin was born in the Sunset District of San Francisco, California, to a family of educators and real estate professionals. His mother, Terry Villanueva, is a teacher and school administrator who owns and operates two L.A. area schools, while his father, Craig Whalin, is a real estate appraiser. Whalin's parents divorced when he was seven years old, and both remarried, giving him a younger half-brother and an older stepbrother and stepsister.
Whalin's interest in acting began at a young age, and he studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) in San Francisco. He attended Lowell High School and later completed his high school education through U.C. Berkeley's homeschooling program.
Whalin's acting career took off at the age of eleven, when he appeared in a production of the play The Little Prince at San Francisco's Victoria Theatre. His first television role was on General Hospital, which led to his breakout role in the 1993 CBS Schoolbreak Special production Other Mothers, for which he won a Daytime Emmy.
Whalin's subsequent roles in Miracle at Midnight, opposite Mia Farrow and Sam Waterston, and as the young Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1994 to 1997, solidified his position as a rising star in the 90s television scene.
Whalin's post-acting career has been marked by a shift towards more behind-the-scenes roles, and he has continued to work in the entertainment industry in various capacities. While his personal life has been relatively private, his contributions to the world of television and film remain an integral part of his enduring legacy.
Whalin's impact on 90s television is undeniable, and his iconic roles continue to inspire new generations of actors and fans alike. As a testament to his enduring talent and dedication to his craft, Justin Whalin remains a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
