Born on January 14, 1990, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Catanzaro grew up in nearby Belleville, where she attended Belleville High School. She is of Italian descent and developed a passion for gymnastics at a young age, which would eventually propel her to great heights.
Catanzaro began training in gymnastics at the age of 6 and reached level 10 in 2007. She competed at the 2007 New Jersey Level 10 State Championships, where she placed fifth in the Senior A division. The following year, she placed third and advanced to the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships, finishing 23rd overall and sixth on the balance beam.
During her college years, Catanzaro competed for Towson University in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. She made her debut in the 2009 season and helped the Towson Tigers gymnastics team win the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in 2009 and 2010. In her senior year, she was named the Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2012.
Before entering the world of professional wrestling, Catanzaro made waves in obstacle racing, becoming the first woman to complete a City Qualifiers course and a City Finals course on the popular television show American Ninja Warrior.
