Star of TV shows like "2 Broke Girls" and movies like "Thor", known for her quirky humor and charming on-screen presence.
Kat Dennings, born Katherine Victoria Litwack on June 13, 1986, is an American actress known for her starring roles as Max Black in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls (2011-2017) and as Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), as well as the Disney miniseries WandaVision (2021).
Dennings grew up in a historic house built in 1694 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, which she claims was haunted. Her family is Jewish, and she is the youngest of five children. Her mother, Ellen Judith Litwack, is a poet and speech therapist, and her father, Gerald J. Litwack, was a molecular pharmacologist, college professor, and chairman.
Beginning her career at age 9, Dennings started acting in commercials, landing her first job in an advertisement for potato chips that never made it to market. She worked as an extra to earn her SAG card and later moved to Los Angeles with her family to pursue acting full-time.
In an interview with Philadelphia magazine in 2008, Dennings explained that she chose the surname "Dennings" because she thought her family name was a little "hideous," and she wanted to know when someone really knew her or they didn't.
Dennings has been nominated for several awards, including a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Actress Comedy for her role in Thor (2011) and a People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedic Actress for her role in 2 Broke Girls (2012).
In an interview with Esquire magazine in 2008, Dennings said, "I'm a total weirdo. I'm a total freak. I'm a total outsider." She has also spoken publicly about her struggles with anxiety and depression.
As for her acting philosophy, Dennings once said, "I think the most important thing in life is to be happy. And I think that's something that people forget. They get caught up in the drama and the stress of things, and they forget to be happy."
Kat Dennings has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry, bring her unique brand of humor and quirkiness to every role she takes on. With a career spanning over two decades, she continues to captivate audiences with her versatility and charm.
As she looks to the future, Dennings remains committed to her craft, inspiring a new generation of actresses and comedians to embrace their individuality and shine.
