Kevin J. O'Connor is a talented American actor renowned for his memorable character roles in a string of major studio films, including FX2, Lord of Illusions, The Mummy, Van Helsing, There Will Be Blood, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. With a career spanning over three decades, O'Connor has established himself as a favorite of acclaimed writer-directors Stephen Sommers and Paul Thomas Anderson, who frequently cast him in their projects.
Born on November 15, 1963, O'Connor trained for the stage at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago. He made his big-screen debut as Michael Fitzsimmons, a high school rebel and beatnik poet, in Francis Ford Coppola's Peggy Sue Got Married (1986). His next significant role was as quizzical newspaper reporter Taggerty Hayes in the HBO miniseries Tanner '88.
O'Connor's breakthrough came when he played a young Ernest Hemingway in the 1988 film The Moderns. He then appeared in a small role in Steel Magnolias (1989) and a featured role in the 1994 erotic thriller Color of Night, starring Bruce Willis and Jane March.
O'Connor's collaboration with writer-director Stephen Sommers began with the 1998 science fiction adventure Deep Rising. He went on to appear in Sommers' projects, including The Mummy, where he played the not-to-be-trusted and materialistic Beni; Van Helsing, where he portrayed Count Dracula's devious servant and Dr. Frankenstein's former assistant, Igor; and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, where he played Doctor Mindbender.
O'Connor delivered a key supporting role in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood (2007), playing Henry, the brother of Daniel Day-Lewis's oil man, Daniel Plainview. He also starred in John Candy's last film, Canadian Bacon, where he portrayed Roy Boy, a suicidal, eccentric American intent on sabotaging Canada. O'Connor reunited with Anderson for a small role in The Master (2012).
