Andrt began playing the guitar at the tender age of 14, self-taught and driven by a passion for music. He formed his first band, the Roosters, in 1966, and went on to play with various groups, including George & Beatovens and the early Framus Five rendition. In 1970, he recorded the album Msto ER with Framus Five.
In the early 1970s, Andrt became a member of Martin Kratochvils Jazz Q and recorded the 1973 album Pozorovatelna with them. He also co-founded Energit, a jazz fusion band, with two former members of Flamengo, Ivan Khunt and Jaroslav Erno ediv, and Vladimr Padrnk from Jazz Q. The band's album Piknik was released in 1978.
1980 marked a significant milestone in Andrt's musical career. He recorded his first solo album, Capricornus, and went on to found his own blues group, Lubo Andrt Blues Band, with Slovak vocalist Peter Lipa. He played on Emil Viklicky's album V Holomci mst in 1977 and recorded the double album Divergencie with Slovak group Collegium Musicum in 1981.
