Professional wrestler and WWE champion, known for his dominant in-ring performances and charismatic persona.
Luke Graham, born James Grady Johnson on February 5, 1940, was an American professional wrestler best known for his ring name "Crazy Luke Graham." As a member of the Graham family, a stable of wrestlers billed as kayfabe brothers, Graham made a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling, capturing multiple titles and the hearts of fans across the nation.
Graham's wrestling career began in 1961 in the National Wrestling Alliance's Mid-America territory. It was during this time that he started wrestling alongside Dr. Jerry Graham, who would become his kayfabe brother. The duo quickly gained popularity, and their feuds with other wrestlers became the stuff of legend.
In 1964, Graham and Dr. Jerry Graham joined the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), where they won the WWWF United States Tag Team Championship from Don McClarity and Argentina Apollo. This victory marked the beginning of Graham's rise to fame, and he would go on to hold the title for eight months.
It was during this time that Graham earned the nickname "Crazy Luke Graham," thanks to his unpredictable and high-energy performances in the ring. Fans adored his reckless abandon and charisma, which set him apart from other wrestlers of the time.
In 1966, Graham left the WWWF and returned as a singles wrestler, feuding with notable wrestlers like Miguel Perez, Antonio Pugliese, and Bruno Sammartino. He then joined Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association (AWA) out of Minneapolis, where he became a mid-card performer for the remainder of the 1960s.
In 1965, Graham achieved one of his greatest accomplishments, winning the WWA World Title from Pedro Morales at a house show on July 23. He held the title for 86 days before losing it back to Morales. This victory cemented Graham's status as a top wrestler in the industry.
