Marcela Bovio is a Mexican singer and violinist, best known for her powerful vocals and soaring strings in the symphonic death metal band MaYaN. With a career spanning over two decades, she has made a name for herself in the metal world, both as a solo artist and as a member of various bands.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Born on October 17, 1979, in Mexico, Marcela started her musical journey at the tender age of five. Alongside her sister Diana, she sang, played the recorder, and western concert flute, and studied music theory. Her early years were filled with the sounds of classical music, which would later influence her unique blend of metal and classical music.

The Rise to Metal Stardom

• In 1995, Marcela joined the Mexican metal band Hydra, where she sang and played the violin. The band released an EP called Bosquejo in 1999, marking the beginning of her metal journey.
• In 2001, she co-founded the experimental rock band Elfona, which was active until 2006. This stint allowed her to explore different musical styles and experiment with her violin playing.
• In 2003, Marcela responded to a casting call by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, which led to her role as the character of Wife in the Ayreon album The Human Equation. This opportunity opened doors to new collaborations and projects.
• In 2005, Lucassen selected her for his new project, the progressive metal band Stream of Passion. Marcela acted as the sole lyricist and later became the band leader and main songwriter after Lucassen's departure in 2007.

Solo Projects and Collaborations

In 2016, Marcela released her first solo album, Unprecedented, a classical album featuring original compositions. This was followed by Through Your Eyes in 2018, showcasing her growth as a solo artist.

Marcela has also acted as a backing vocalist for various bands, including Epica and The Gentle Storm. In 2016, she was one of the founding members of VUUR, further solidifying her position in the metal world.

MaYaN and Beyond

In 2017, Marcela joined MaYaN as a full-time member, bringing her unique vocals and violin playing to the symphonic death metal band. Her collaboration with MaYaN has resulted in critically acclaimed albums and tours.
