Known for his incredible skill and tenacity on the field, Martin "Munster" Bella is a former Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. Born on 26 March 1964, in Sarina, Queensland, Bella is of Italian descent. He began playing junior rugby league for the Sarina Crocs, where he developed his skills and passion for the sport. Representing Queensland and Australian Schoolboys, he was part of the Mackay under-18 team that defeated Herbert River in the final.
Bella's talents soon caught the attention of selectors, and he went on to represent the North Queensland Marlins. In 1983, he left north Queensland to play for the Easts Tigers in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership. After three seasons in Brisbane, he played two offseasons for Halifax in England's Rugby Football League.
In 1986, Bella joined the North Sydney Bears, where he played 23 games in his first season, starting 19 games at prop. He was selected for the 1986 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France, playing in most games on the tour, although not in the Tests.
In 1987, he made his State of Origin debut for Queensland and played in 23 games for the Bears. The following year, he represented Queensland again and played his first Test match for Australia, coming off the bench in the Kangaroos' third Test loss to Great Britain on their tour of Australia.
In 1990, Bella joined the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, where he played in 22 games and was named the Dally M Prop of the Year. This recognition cemented his reputation as one of the best props in the league.
