Born on June 18, 1975, in Laval, Quebec, Canada, St. Louis grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown before attending the University of Vermont. During his collegiate career, St. Louis was a standout player for the Vermont Catamounts, earning East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) All-American honors for three consecutive seasons between 1995 and 1997. He was also named the ECAC Player of the Year in 1995.
Despite going undrafted, St. Louis began his NHL career with the Calgary Flames in 1998 and went on to play for the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2004. He also played briefly for HC Lausanne in the Swiss National League A before joining the New York Rangers, with whom he finished his career in 2015.
St. Louis has represented Canada on several occasions, winning the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and earning two silver medals at the World Championships. He was also named a tournament all-star at the World Championships.
