His calling to a life of service and spirituality led him to join the Monastery of St. Macarius the Great on February 19, 1939, where he took the name Matyas al-Maqari.
Ordained as a priest on November 17, 1939, Metropolitan Mikhail's dedication and wisdom soon earned him recognition. He studied at the Monastic School of Helwan from 1942 to 1944, laying the foundation for his future leadership roles.
