Prithviraj Sukumaran was born on October 16, 1982, to actors Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran. He hails from a family of artists and was exposed to the film industry from a young age. He completed his schooling from St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, and later pursued a degree in Information Technology from the University of Tasmania, Australia.
