Born on June 28, 1979, McMichael grew up in Fort Valley, Georgia, where he attended Peach County High School. During his high school years, he was named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Top 50 in the state of Georgia and was voted the team's best offensive lineman as a senior. In addition to football, McMichael also lettered in basketball and track.
McMichael went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he played college football from 1999 to 2001. During his time at Georgia, he was a three-year letterman and earned several accolades, including First-team Freshman All-American honors from The Sporting News and SEC coaches in 1999. As a sophomore, he was an honorable mention All-conference selection, and in his final year, he was a First-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press and SEC coaches.
McMichael was selected in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. In his rookie season, he started 11 games and caught 39 passes for 485 yards and four touchdowns. Throughout his career, McMichael played for the San Diego Chargers (2007-2009) and St. Louis Rams (2010-2011), accumulating a total of 426 receptions for 4,357 yards and 24 touchdowns.
After retiring from the NFL, McMichael has remained involved in the sports world, working as an analyst for Fox Sports San Diego. He has also been involved in various charitable initiatives, including working with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
