He played for several teams, including the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans (now Utah) Jazz, and the Kansas City-Omaha (now Sacramento) Kings, before ending his playing career in 1975.

His big break came when he joined the Portland Trail Blazers as an assistant coach under Jack Ramsay.
