Robert Livingston, born Robert Edward Randall, was an American film actor who made a name for himself in the early days of Hollywood, starring in over 136 films between 1921 and 1975. He is perhaps best known for his roles as The Lone Ranger, Zorro, and Stony Brooke, one of the original Three Mesquiteers, cementing his place as a legendary figure in the Western film genre.
Born on December 9, 1904, in Quincy, Illinois, Livingston began his acting career in the early 1920s, making his film debut in 1921. He went on to appear in numerous films throughout the decade, gradually building a reputation as a leading man in Westerns and serials.
In 1936, Livingston donned the mask of Zorro in The Bold Caballero, directed by Wells Root. This role marked a significant milestone in his career, as it showcased his versatility and range as an actor. Three years later, he took on the role of The Lone Ranger in the 1939 film serial The Lone Ranger Rides Again, directed by William Witney and co-starring Chief Thundercloud as Tonto.
Livingston was part of the original trio in the Three Mesquiteers Western B-movie series, playing Stony Brooke alongside Ray "Crash" Corrigan and Max Terhune. He later went on to star in The Lone Rider series, accompanied by Al "Fuzzy" St. John and Dennis "Smoky" Moore.
On December 18, 1947, Livingston married Margaret Roach, daughter of director-producer Hal Roach. The couple had one son, actor and writer Addison Randall, born in 1949. Livingston passed away on March 7, 1988, at the age of 83, due to complications from emphysema.
