Pelley's passion for hockey took him to the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCHL, where he played from 2001 to 2002. He then joined the Vernon Vipers, finishing his BCHL career with them. His outstanding performance earned him a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the Buckeyes of Ohio State University.
