Godnez's big break came on September 21, 2012, when he made his first division debut for Morelia on his 20th birthday, starting in a 1–1 draw against Tigres UANL. Although he was replaced in the 52nd minute by Jefferson Montero, this milestone marked the beginning of his successful tenure with Morelia. During his time with the club, Godnez played a pivotal role in securing two prestigious titles: the Apertura 2013 Copa MX and the 2014 Supercopa MX.
