Growing up, Rosemary and Priscilla would travel to Des Moines every weekend to study dancing with the renowned teacher Rose Lorenz.
Rosemary made her professional debut on September 30, 1930, at the Des Moines Paramount Theater, alongside her sister Priscilla. The sisters' talents soon caught the attention of Fred Waring, the orchestra leader, who contracted them to join his band, The Pennsylvanians. This marked the beginning of Rosemary's illustrious career, which would take her from New York's Broadway to Hollywood's silver screen.
Rosemary's film debut came in 1937 with Varsity Show, a musical starring Dick Powell, where she and Priscilla took feature roles. Her next film, Hollywood Hotel, saw her co-star with sister Lola and Powell. The Lane sisters' talents shone brightly in the 1938 film Four Daughters, alongside Gale Page, and in Daughters Courageous.
