Born on August 7, 1987, in Ludwigsburg, Germany, Rouven began his football journey at the tender age of 10 with TSV Affalterbach's youth team. His exceptional skills caught the attention of VfB Stuttgart scouts, who signed him in 2000. However, after just one year, he was sold to SGV Freiberg, where he spent two seasons before moving to Stuttgarter Kickers in 2003.
In the 2004-05 season, Rouven helped Stuttgarter Kickers win the South German Championship, earning himself a move to Jahn Regensburg. He initially played for the U19 team before being promoted to the reserve team in 2006. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the 3. Liga team, making his professional debut in 2008.
In 2010, Rouven signed a two-year contract with Bayern Munich, serving as the second-team goalkeeper and third-choice for the first team. After his stint with Bayern, he went on trial with Scottish Football League Third Division side Rangers before eventually signing with 1. FC Heidenheim in 2013.
In 2016, Rouven made the move to English League One side Bradford City, where he spent two seasons before being released. He then joined Darmstadt 98 in 2018, playing for the team until his retirement in 2019.
After hanging up his boots, Rouven transitioned into coaching, taking up the role of goalkeeper coach at SG Sonnenhof Groaspach in 2019.
