Rula Lenska was born as Roza Maria Leopoldyna Lubienski on September 30, 1947, in Diddington, England, in a Polish resettlement camp. Her family, members of the Polish nobility, bore the Pomian coat of arms and owned a castle and estate in Kazimierza Wielka, Poland, before the war.
Her father, Major Ludwik Lubienski, played a significant role in Poland's history, serving as personal secretary to Józef Beck, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and later as adjutant to General Sikorski, Prime Minister of the Polish Government in Exile. During the Cold War, he headed the CIA-funded Polish Section of Radio Free Europe in Germany.
Her mother, Countess Elżbieta Tyszkiewicz, bravely escaped from Poland to Italy during the German occupation but was captured and sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she survived for two years alongside her own mother.
Lenska was educated at the Ursuline Convent School in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent. Her breakthrough role came as the Little Ladies band member Q in the British TV series Rock Follies in 1976 and its sequel, Rock Follies of '77, the following year.
Lenska has appeared in several notable films, including Queen Kong and Aura, and played the character Claudia Colby in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.
Lenska has been married twice, firstly to actor Brian Deacon from 1977 to 1987, and then to actor Dennis Waterman from 1987 to 1998. Both marriages ended in divorce.
