Ryan Ellis is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman currently playing for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on January 3, 1991, in Freelton, Ontario, Canada, Ellis began playing minor hockey at the age of four. He played for various teams in Ontario, including the Cambridge Hawks, and won silver and gold medals at the peewee and bantam provincials, respectively.
Ellis' junior career took off when he joined the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2007. During his time with the Spitfires, he led the team to back-to-back Memorial Cup championships in 2009 and 2010. Individually, he was named to the CHL and OHL All-Rookie Teams in 2008, the First OHL All-Star Team in 2009 and 2011, and the Second OHL All-Star Team in 2010.
The Nashville Predators drafted Ellis 11th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Predators for nine seasons, becoming a key player on their defense. In 2019, Ellis was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, where he currently plays.
