Born on March 17, 1987, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Parent has made a name for himself in the National Hockey League (NHL), playing for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Vancouver Canucks.

Early Life and Career

Growing up in the remote town of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Parent developed a passion for hockey from a young age. He played minor hockey for the Flyers rep program until his minor bantam year and later moved to AAA hockey with the Thunder Bay Kings Bantam team. This was where he met future NHLers Tom Pyatt and Marc Staal. In 2002-2003, Parent was signed by the Waterloo Siskins Jr. B. team, which marked the beginning of his journey to the NHL.

Draft and Rise to the NHL

The Nashville Predators drafted Parent in the first round, 18th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. On February 15, 2007, Parent was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, along with Scottie Upshall, a 1st-round draft pick, and a 3rd-round draft pick, in exchange for Peter Forsberg. He made his NHL debut with the Flyers on April 5, 2007, against the New Jersey Devils. Parent's defensive skills earned him the nickname "Bernie" from his Flyers teammates, reminiscent of the former Flyers netminder Bernie Parent.
