Saint Jhn was born on August 26, 1986, in Brooklyn, New York City, but spent his childhood split between Guyana and Brooklyn's East New York neighborhood. Growing up, he was inspired by his older brother, who would rap in the neighborhood with friends, and began creating music at just 12 years old. He wrote his first song in his first year of high school while living in Guyana, and this early start paved the way for his future success.
Before adopting the stage name Saint Jhn, he performed and wrote under his birth name, Carlos St. John or Carlos Saint John. In 2010, he released an EP, The St. John Portfolio, and a mixtape, In Association, which showcased his talent as a writer and performer. Soon after, he was flown to Los Angeles, California, by music executive Zach Katz, where he wrote songs for Rihanna, although none were accepted. This experience didn't deter him, and he went on to co-write tracks for artists such as Hoodie Allen, Kiesza, Gorgon City, and Nico Vinz.
In 2016, Saint Jhn released the original version of "Roses", which gained a local following but didn't reach mainstream success until its 2019 remix. The remix's massive success led to the release of his third studio album, While the World Was Burning, on November 20, 2020. This album solidified Saint Jhn's position as a talented and innovative artist, and his unique sound continues to inspire fans around the world.
Saint Jhn has written songs for a variety of artists, including Kanye West, Jidenna, Usher, and Hoodie Allen, among others. He is also a founding member of the music collective Gdd Complexx, which showcases his ability to collaborate and create with others.
