Sam McQueen, an English former professional footballer, is best known for his impressive career at hometown club Southampton, where he played primarily as a left-sided fullback or winger. Born on 6 February 1995, McQueen's talent and dedication to the sport earned him a spot in the club's academy at just eight years old.
McQueen attended The Mountbatten School in Romsey, Hampshire, before being scouted by Southampton at a young age. He joined the club's academy, where he developed his skills alongside other talented players like James Ward-Prowse, Luke Shaw, and Calum Chambers. In 2008, McQueen was part of the Southampton F.C. Academy U13 side that finished as runners-up in the prestigious Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Tournament in Texas.
McQueen made his professional debut for Southampton in the FA Cup fifth-round match against Sunderland on 15 February 2014, coming on as a substitute in the second half. He signed a new four-year contract with the club in June 2014. In January 2016, McQueen completed a loan move to League One side Southend United, where he made his league debut and scored his first league goal as a professional against Colchester United on his 21st birthday.
In 2018, McQueen went on loan to Middlesbrough, where he experienced a series of setbacks, including a knee injury that would ultimately force him to retire from football at the age of 26. He initially ruptured the ACL in his right knee, but was unable to recover fully, resulting in his retirement from the sport in 2022.
