Sander Baart, a Dutch field hockey player of Belgian descent, is renowned for his exceptional skills as a defender and midfielder, leading his teams to numerous national and international titles. With an impressive career spanning over a decade, Baart has established himself as a stalwart in the world of field hockey.
Baart's club career began at the tender age of 6 at Royal Antwerp HC in Belgium, where he won the Belgian national title in his final season in 2007. He then moved to the Dutch club Oranje Zwart, with whom he won three consecutive Dutch national titles from 2014 to 2016. In 2015, he added the Euro Hockey League title to his accolades.
His club career has taken him to various international teams, including the Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India League, Real Club de Polo de Barcelona, and Braxgata in the Belgian club competition. In 2020, he returned to Eindhoven to play for OranjeRood, and later returned to his first club, Antwerp.
As a junior player, Baart represented the Belgian national team, winning the European title with the Boys Under 16 team. He later switched to the Dutch national teams, winning European silver and gold medals with the under-21 team and a silver medal at the Junior World Championship.
Baart made his debut for the senior Dutch national men's team in 2007 against South Korea, becoming the only player to be selected for the team without having played in the Dutch competition prior to his debut. He went on to win a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, a gold medal in the first Hockey World League in 2014, silver at the World Cup that same year, and a gold medal in 2015 at the European Championship.
