Born on March 26, 1998, in Kyoto, Japan, Miyahara's parents, both doctors, introduced her to figure skating at a young age. Her family's relocation to Houston, Texas, when she was five, allowed her to learn English and develop a passion for the sport. Returning to Kyoto at seven, Miyahara began training under the guidance of Mie Hamada, who would become her long-term coach.
Miyahara's junior international debut in the 2011-2012 season was marked by a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix in Gdansk, Poland, and a fifth-place finish in Milan, Italy.
