Podsednik's professional career began when he was drafted out of high school in the 3rd round, 85th overall, by the Texas Rangers in the 1994 MLB draft. He started his journey in the minor leagues, playing for the Gulf Coast Rangers in 1994. Over the next few years, he was traded to the Florida Marlins and later returned to the Rangers in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft. He spent nine long years in the minors, grappling with injuries and setbacks, before finally making his MLB debut.
Podsednik made his MLB debut on July 6, 2001, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, pinch-running for the legendary Ichiro Suzuki. In his first career major league at-bat, against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 15, he hit a bases-loaded triple. This promising start marked the beginning of his successful MLB career, which would see him play for the Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, and Kansas City Royals.
