Sergei Fedorov is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time, known for his exceptional skill, speed, and scoring prowess on the ice. With a storied career spanning over two decades, Fedorov won three Stanley Cup championships, earned the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
Born on December 13, 1969, in Pskov, Russia, Fedorov began playing hockey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. By 16, he was playing for CSKA Moscow in the Soviet Union alongside future NHL hall-of-famers Pavel Bure and Alexander Mogilny. In 1989, Mogilny became the first Soviet superstar to defect to play in the NHL, paving the way for Fedorov's own defection in 1990.
Fedorov spent 13 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, winning three Stanley Cup championships (1997, 1998, and 2002) and earning the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1994. He was a dominant force on the ice, scoring 483 goals in 1,200 NHL games and leading the Red Wings to the playoffs 12 times. Fedorov also played for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Washington Capitals before retiring in 2009.
After retiring from playing, Fedorov transitioned to coaching, serving as the head coach of CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) from 2021 to 2024. He was also an assistant coach for the Russian national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
