Born on September 26, 1996, in Owasso, Oklahoma, Milton's love for basketball was evident from a young age. He played under Coach Mark Vancuren at Owasso High School, where he earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the state of Oklahoma in his junior and senior years.
During his senior year, Milton averaged an impressive 29.7 points and 4.4 assists per game, earning him numerous accolades, including Tulsa World Player of the Year, Oklahoma Super 5 Player of the Year, and Oklahoma Coaches Association ALL-STATE.
Milton committed to Southern Methodist University (SMU) over the University of Oklahoma and Indiana University. In his freshman year, he saw action in 30 games, starting 23, and averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per contest, earning him AAC All-Rookie Team distinction.
In the summer of 2016, Milton was a member of the US Select Team for the Goodwill Tour in Croatia. The 2016-2017 season saw him start in all 35 games, producing averages of 13.0 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per outing, earning him a spot on the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team as a sophomore.
In his junior year, Milton appeared in 22 games, averaging 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game before a broken right hand ended his season prematurely. He was named to the All-AAC Second Team for a second season.
The Dallas Mavericks drafted Milton 54th overall in the 2018 NBA draft, but he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on draft night. He signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves in July 2023 and was traded to the Detroit Pistons in February 2024 before agreeing to a buyout with Detroit after only appearing in four games. Milton then signed with the New York Knicks in March 2024.
In addition to his NBA career, Milton has also played for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League.
