After college, Sinbad served in the United States Air Force as a boom operator aboard KC-135 Stratotankers. During his military service, he would often travel to perform stand-up comedy in downtown Wichita, Kansas. In 1981, he competed as a comedian/MC in the Air Force's Talent Contest.
