Born on April 23, 1999, in Seoul, South Korea, Chaeyoung's fascination with the performing arts began at a young age. She started modeling for a children's magazine and eventually took dance lessons for over a year, setting her sights on becoming a singer. At just 13, she passed the auditions and joined JYP Entertainment, one of the largest K-pop entertainment agencies in South Korea.
In 2015, Chaeyoung participated in the reality television competition Sixteen, where she ranked sixth and secured a spot in the newly formed girl group Twice. Chaeyoung made history as the first member of Twice to receive writing credits when she penned a rap verse for the group's version of J.Y. Park's "Precious Love" as part of their 2016 EP Page Two. Since then, she has continued to contribute to the group's discography, writing lyrics for multiple songs. Her creativity extends beyond music, as she has also designed the limited edition cover of Page Two and three different pairs of SPRIS shoes.
In addition to her work with Twice, Chaeyoung has released solo covers of "Alone" by Cheeze and "Off My Face" by Justin Bieber as part of the Melody Project series.
