Growing up, Teresa was homeschooled until her junior year of high school, before attending Gering High School part-time. She graduated early from Scottsbluff High School in 2010, finishing as Salutatorian of her class.
In 2010, Teresa was crowned Miss Nebraska, which paved the way for her to compete in the Miss America 2011 pageant. Her talent, intelligence, and charm won over the judges, and she was crowned Miss America 2011, becoming the youngest winner in over 70 years.
After her Miss America reign, Teresa continued her education at Patrick Henry College. In 2018, she enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 2021. Today, Teresa works as a business litigation attorney at King & Spalding in Houston, Texas.
In 2018, Teresa joined the Wyoming Air National Guard as an Airman First Class, serving in the 153rd Force Support Squadron. She successfully completed her basic combat training class in the top 10, showcasing her dedication to serving her country.
